Laser Cutting Plastics

Types and thickness of plastics processed

We laser cut plastics suitable for laser processing, such as acrylic (PMMA, organic glass), PET, PET-G, polystyrene (PS), ABS, and other plastics with similar composition. The maximum plastic thickness that can be cut is up to 9 mm, depending on the material type and composition.
Before cutting, we always evaluate the purpose and properties of the plastic, as different plastics react differently to laser exposure. If there are doubts about material suitability or cutting results, we can perform a test cut.

Precision and applications

Laser cutting allows precise cutting of both simple and complex geometric shapes. Due to the non-contact processing method, the plastic is not subjected to mechanical stress, preserving part shape and dimensional accuracy.

Cut properties and edge appearance

When cutting plastics with a laser, the cut edges are smooth and precise. Depending on the plastic type and thickness, the cut edges may be completely clean or show minor signs of thermal effect. Thinner plastics and materials suitable for laser cutting usually allow achieving very clean cuts.

When cutting very thin plastic sheets, some thermally sensitive materials may temporarily deform due to the heat generated by the laser. In such cases, appropriate cutting parameters are selected or alternative solutions are recommended to maintain part shape and accuracy.
