Laser Engraving Leather

Types and thickness of leather suitable for engraving

We engrave natural leather and synthetic leather suitable for laser processing. The engraving result depends on the leather type, surface treatment, dyeing, and structure. Different leathers react differently to engraving—some produce higher contrast, others a more subtle effect.
Leather thickness is not a critical limiting factor for engraving, as the process affects only the surface layer. Before engraving, we evaluate the leather properties to select the appropriate parameters.

Precision and applications

Laser engraving allows the creation of fine details and clear text even on small-format products. Since there is no mechanical contact, the leather surface is not scratched or deformed.
Leather laser engraving is most commonly used for:
Wallets, belts, and accessories,
Corporate gifts and personalized products,
Decorative elements,
Marking and logos,
Custom and serial projects.

Engraving depth and surface appearance

During engraving, the laser removes or darkens the top layer of leather, forming the image based on contrast. On natural leather, the engraved area usually darkens, while on synthetic leather the color may change or the underlying layer may be exposed.

Contrast and the final appearance depend on the leather color, surface coating, and engraving settings. If a cleaner surface is required, protective measures may be used before engraving to reduce soot deposition.

Leather engraving is performed using provided vector or raster files (DXF, SVG, PDF, JPG, PNG). Before engraving, we assess the design detail, leather type, and surface properties to achieve a clear, repeatable result.
