Laser Engraving Plywood

Types and thickness of plywood processed

We engrave birch plywood and other types of plywood suitable for laser processing. The engraving result depends on the structure of the plywood layers, the glue composition, and surface treatment, but in general almost any plywood can be engraved.
The most commonly used thickness is 3–6 mm, however engraving is also possible on thicker sheets, as the process affects only the surface layer.

Before engraving, we assess the surface quality of the plywood to achieve an even and clear result.

Precision and applications

Laser engraving allows the creation of fine details, clear text, and complex ornaments. Since engraving is performed without mechanical contact, the plywood surface is not pressed or damaged.
Laser engraving on plywood is most commonly used for:
Decorative elements,
Information and name plates,
Logos and marking,
Interior and design solutions,
Custom and serial products.

Engraving depth and surface appearance

During engraving, the laser removes the top layer of the plywood, so the image is formed by the contrast between the engraved area and the natural surface. The engraving depth is controlled by selecting appropriate parameters — from very subtle to deeper, more pronounced engraving.

Due to the thermal effect, engraved areas acquire a darker shade. This is a natural characteristic of laser engraving on plywood and is often used as a visual advantage. If a cleaner surface is required, protective masking tape can be applied before engraving to reduce soot on the plywood surface.

Plywood engraving is performed using provided vector or raster files (DXF, SVG, PDF, JPG, PNG). Before engraving, we evaluate the level of detail of the design, the type of plywood, and surface properties to select suitable engraving parameters and ensure a stable result.
